Since the start of the cooperation in 2023, cargo-partner has utilized the program in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary to enable environment-friendly transport from key European ports. The initiative, developed by Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) and METRANS, reduces CO₂ emissions by using energy-efficient rail transport, electrified terminal operations, and offsetting any remaining emissions through certified climate protection projects.
A growing commitment to sustainability
Through this extended collaboration, cargo-partner has grown its climate-neutral transport volumes across Central Europe. In 2024, cargo-partner transported a total of 15,706 TEUs in a climate-friendly manner, with 2,611 TEUs handled in the Czech Republic, 4,870 TEUs in Slovakia, and 8,225 TEUs in Hungary. Compared to the previous year’s total of 12,885 TEUs, this represents a notable year-on-year increase, reinforcing cargo-partner’s commitment to sustainable logistics.

In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, cargo-partner’s partnership with METRANS has facilitated CO₂-free transport on routes to and from major ports, including Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Koper. The Slovakian branch has seen a particularly strong increase, reaching 4,870 TEUs transported in a climate-friendly manner – up from 3,181 TEUs in the previous year. This expansion is in line with cargo-partner’s broader sustainability efforts, including the direct connection of its warehouse in Dunajská Streda to the container terminal and the long-standing use of electric reach stackers.
