Trade Analysis: Transatlantic Westbound
Situation
All ocean carriers announced a General Rate Increase (GRI) and/or a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on September 1 due to high vessel utilization and volume growth on the Transatlantic trade lane. Business between Europe and the US has grown by 7% in the first half of 2024.
Obstacles
Most of the current Transatlantic ocean freight sailings are booked to capacity, which could lead to difficulties with short-term bookings.
